Del caos al cosmos: una nueva serie enlazada del Producto Interior Bruto de España entre 1850 y 2000

Abstract

El propósito de este trabajo consiste en construir una nueva y más sólida estimación de la serie del Producto Interior Bruto de España desde 1850 a 2000. El artículo resume la historia de la Contabilidad Nacional en el país y revisa la elaboración de las cuentas nacionales históricas. Además, analiza los posibles errores e inconsistencias de los datos existentes. Demuestra que no hay razón alguna para desechar las estimaciones oficiales, sino que, por el contrario, deben incorporarse salvando adecuadamente los problemas de falta de homogeneidad. Expone, por último, la metodología utilizada para construir nuevas series del PIB y del PIB per cápita para todo el período. Los nuevos datos suponen importantes correcciones al alza de las cuentas nacionales anteriores a 1954, al tiempo que resultan coherentes con las series de carácter oficial enlazadas. Por tanto, la interpretación de algunos períodos de la historia económica española debe ser sustancialmente modificada.
