Abstract

This paper investigates techniques that can be used by people with visual deficit in order to improve their life quality. The techniques covered span from technologies developed more than 3 decades ago, but forgotten by time and extremely powerful, to new computer aided sense substitution systems that manage to transmit as much as possible of the highly data intensive visual sense through the more limited senses, like the auditory or tactile. The usage possibility ranges from very simple to use PC and webcam instruments to hi-tech implants inserted directly on the brain.
