Abstract

(Why are models of men a topic of many controversies when it comes to arguments between theories and what are the functions of action theories is the central question to be discussed here. According to Max Weber’s interpretative-explanatory sociology human action is the very starting point for analysing the social. In Weber’s view models of men are neither normative ideals nor a complex picture of the reality but more or less abstract descriptions that help to identify certain social factors. Especially the model of means-end-rationality offers a strong causal model. The model of homo oeconomicus is then to be interpreted as one form of a highly restricted model of intentional action that on the one hand ‘ignores” the social construction of ends and on the other hand all restrictions of human capacities.)
