Abstract

(This article combines insights from cultural business ethics and international relations research and argues that corporate social responsibility can only be adequately conceptualised and analysed if its historical co-evolution with the transformation of the state is taken into consideration. The empirical illustration of the argument applies a tripartite historical heuristic that traces the parallel development of transnational self-regulation and the transformation of the state since the 1970s.)
