Desigualdad Social Y Pobreza En El Estado De México: ¿Convergencia O Divergencia?

Abstract

El artículo aborda el problema de las relaciones entre desigualdad y pobreza: a diferencia de lo que suele creerse, estos dos fenómenos no se compartan de manera unívoca y unidireccional. Es posible encontrar situaciones en la que ambos convergen y tienden a comportarse en forma directa; pero también es cierto que en otras circunstancias divergen y exhiben una relación inversa en la que cambios en la pobreza van asociados a variaciones en sentido contrario en la desigualdad. La tesis central es que el factor que más determina la convergencia o la divergencia entre pobreza y desigualdad es el grado de marginación que acusa el territorio geográfico en el que se asientan los conglomerados sociales que los experimentan. Para demostrarla se recurre al examen regional en el Estado de México, que confirma las tendencias que se dan a nivel nacional.
