Abstract

[eng] In order to analyse French industrial export performance, this paper distinguishes three geographical areas : the EEC with nine countries ; the OECD minus the EEC ; and the rest of the world. This permits a better explanation of the récent détérioration in the manufacturing trade balance. According to the results of an econometric analysis price-competitiveness effects are most important with the EEC. The détérioration in French competitiveness is the main, but not the only, factor explaining the récent losses of market share.
