Abstract

[eng] Brady's program is a totally new approach of debt problems for the developing countries. It recognizes the necessity of a reduction of debt amounts. Mexico is the first country to try this new strategy and represents a significant test before this program is put into practice in other countries. The evaluation of the direct profit issued from the agreement with the banks has raised important debates. But measuring the macro- economic consequences of the reduction of the debt seems to be the fundamental point. All the benefits of the adjustment program applied since 1982 will then appear and will make Mexico able to follow a growth path within stability.
