Abstract

[eng] Pension rights and years of contribution to the pension system: an intergenerational comparison of accumulation profiles. . . This paper describes the accumulation of pension rights, in terms of years of contribution to the pension system, in France for the generations bom between 1938 and 1967. Due to a later entry into working life, men of the youngest generations total at a given age fewer years of contribution than do the oldest ones. Thus, the proportion of those who can retire with a full pension at the legal minimum age has decreased: 80 % for the men bom between 1943 and 1947, 65 % for those born between 1963 and 1967. Regarding women, the growth of the participation rate makes up for the lengthening of the educational period. Specific dispositions for mothers do not compensate for periods of inactivity for the oldest generations, but overcompensate for the youngest ones. Increasing the minimum period of contribution for a full pension penalises the young more than the old.
