Abstract

[fre] Délégation et hiérarchie. . [eng] Delegation and hierarchy. . Three reasons are given in agency models to justify the choice of a three-level hierarchy as the organization's internal structure : communication costs, double moral hazard and contract incompleteness. In this paper, we suggest another explanation. We show, in a simple model, that a three-level hierarchy is the optimal internal structure when the different tasks of the agency strongly overlap.
