Abstract

[eng] Karl polanyi on the organization of money in society. . By attributing a universal character to monetary uses and by breaking with the assump-tion that money is mercantile by nature, Karl Polanyi introduced a new interpretation of monetary organization. Payment, means of exchange and standard, which are the essen-tial fonctions of money according to Polanyi, are at the heart of every society's precess of integration. In the analysis of transformation - i. e the attempt during the 19th century to organize western economies according to the principle of a self-regulating System of price-making market and of its limits between the two world wars. The labor market appears paramount. A rereading of Polanyi's work supports the thesis that, for him, the monetary institution plays an essential role.
