Abstract

[eng] Outline of an hestorical account showing the neutralization of history in liberal political economy. The epistemological questions at issue concerning old controverses. . Beyond methodological conflicts, and through the issue of the ontological status of economy (separable or not separable ? natural or historical ?), the controversies concerning the role of history in economics raise an epistemological problem involving the scientificity of liberal political economy. A retrospective analysis of the history of economies gives the impression that these debates have led the liberal economists to give up the relevance in favour of formai rigour, whereas some of their scorners fell into idiography. What can be thought of the project of these economists today who claim the historicity of economy without loosing hope of theorizing in history ?
