Abstract

[eng] Transportat/on infrastructures and agents' location : an analysis of a few simple facts. Jacques Lesourne. The paper studies on a simple model the relations between agents location and transportation infrastructures. The space considered is a double rectangular stripe of infinite length in the middle of which lies a city along a segment perpendicular to the stripe axis. In the stripe, live farmers who have to go to the city in order to exchange agricultural goods against manufactures. First, it is assumed that location density is given, that individuals do not anticipate and that a distribution network is not created in the country. Under these assumptions, the impact on agents location of carious infrastructures is examined. Then, one explores the consequences of the creation of a distribution network, of the choice by the agents of the location density, of the existence of agents expectations. Results are in agreement with usual observations. The last part of the paper applies the model to the cost-benefit analysis of transportation infrastructures.
