Abstract

[eng] The timing of interrelated production processes and its impact on income distribution and productivity. Antoine Delarue. This paper extends Sraffa's Single product model through thé introduction of three sets of time parameters relative to :. — the recurrence of the payment of wages which may differ along the various labor or force,. — the manufacturing delays of the various commodities produced by the economy,. — the economie lifes of the various types of machines and similarly the durations. between stock renewal for the non durable goods.. These three extensions which are performed separately prove to be complemental since the combined generalization appears to be independent of the choice of the time reference which is used in measuring the profit and wages rates, a property that neither the three partial extensions nor Sraffa's original scheme do share. Although this « generalized single product model » (GSP) maintains a matrix form simïlar to Sraffa original models, its behavior and economic relevance appears quite different on two counts.. First, for a given set of interrelated production processes and timing paramaters, wages and profit rates may now, at least over a certain span, move in the same direction.. Secondly, changes in the time parameters used in the model can be accounted for dis'tinctly. This enables us to define a, new concept of technical progress which is relative to the timing of the economic activities and whose impact on wages and productivity appears potentially as important as the traditionnal concept based on changes in I/O coefficients.
