Abstract

[eng] Foundations of monetaky welfare economics : seignorage, external liquidity, impossibilite to pay interest on species. . This article deals with three topics in monetary welfare economies. 1° If price deflation is not possible, full liquidity is reached by paying an interest on money balances ; but it is practicelly impossible for notes and coins ; what interest must thus be paid on deposits ? 2° An agent's cash balance yields liquidity services to the agents who receive this money in payment ; this is shown to be a Pareto-relevant external economy ; we call it external liquidity ; we analyze it along with a few related concepts, and we study the internalization of this externality. 3° Present dat seignorage is analyzed, given that this monopoly profit is a flow and that present money is essentially private credit money ; this determines money supply and inflation rates.
