[eng] Allocation of resources and draft system in France An analysis of the main features of the French draft system helps revealing the economical effects of this recruitment methods in the military sector. Thus, its compulsory aspect leads to a difficult adjustment between growing resources and decreasing needs. Its relatively short duration affects the army efficiency wether as to the training of draftees or in the employment field the trained staff. Finally, the little pay given to draftees does not necessarily make an economical advantage to the military sector. The draft system has also side effects upon the civilian sector. As a matter of fact, through the drafting of a part of the working population, it can contribute to reduce unemployment and improve vocational training. But it can also raise up a discrepancy between vacant and wanted situations in civilian life. This side effect will reverberate upon the national product level which would then be under the level it would reach not only if there was no military sector but also if there was a voluntary system of enlistment. Finally, the little pay given to draftees has side effects upon the demand for consumption and income distribution.
