Abstract

[eng] Conditions for a successful development of product ecolabels : products environmental qualification and market exchange. Since the beginning of the nineties, product ecolabelling devices have proliferated world-wide. However, an industrial opposition hinders the development of the ecolabels on the final markets. We discuss the conditions for their successful development before turning on to examine the theoretical implications raised by this case study. It appears that the ability of the existing theoretical frameworks to analyse the impact of market competition on products qualification has to be examined more in detail.
