Abstract

[eng] Was the post World War II farm replacement rate predictable in France ? It is actually possible to relate rural poverty with low replacement rates, in a cross section analysis, using the minimum installation surface (as determined by local communities) as the threshold for the definition of the poor. Is it possible to predict the opposite movement from town to countryside, using unemployement rates as a proxy to urban poverty ? This is less obvious for, by now, a poor cannot be a farmer anymore ? Thus, the preceding situation is not reversible, which makes future less predictable.
