Abstract

[eng] Greater similarity of living conditions in town and country in Rumania - All Rumanian peasants have gained control of the means of production - by their work, their livelihood is henceforth ensured. . The building of a socialist society aims at improving working conditions in the countryside, and also, by means of mechanization and technical improvements, at increasing both farm production and the peasants' net income. . Improved rural housing, more widespread education (between 8 and 10 years), improved road communications', free medical care, allowances for the children of cooperative members, pensions for old people - are some of the measures that have already transformed rural life. At present further steps are being taken to increase the resemblance between village and town life. Modern techniques will be used towards a dynamic development of production. Work in agriculture will increasingly become one form of industrial labour. Cooperation between the social sector and the cooperative sector will be increased. Town planning, and the development in rural areas of education, cultural and leisure activities, of trade and services will contribute to a higher standard of living, and of culture in the peasant population. . This complex process requires a great effort from the whole of society and particularly considerable financial means.
