Abstract

[eng] Agriculture in the year 2000 - Food consumption must be considered differently in rich countries from those where are food shortages. For these, present-day technology, if used, will enable the population to be supplied in the middle run notwithstanding the increasing numbers of the population. . Technical progress, in spite of the upheaval and the fears that it has caused, will continue in agriculture as in the other fields of human activity. . During the last centuries evolution has given way to a constant limitation of the outlets in the western countries for nearly all agricultural products; this trend will remain in spite of all the work done to intensify and control the production. . Agricultural problems will remain, for to an ever improving productivity, for the benefit af all consumers, will correspond a relative decrease in outlets. . States will be faced as now, with increasing difficulties which will be still more complicated by the developpment of the food processing industry and by the necessity of taking to a greater extent the influence of diet on the health of people into account.
