Led by a growing demand, benefiting from its major role in the public debate, supported by technological progress, statistical information experiences big changes. Improved governance enables to consolidate the independence of production and dissemination of statistics from political and other external interference. International normalization is spreading, particularly in Europe. The traditional trade-off between surveys and administrative sources is shifting to the advantage of the latter ones. The internet modifies the conditions of dissemination and renews invoicing strategies. At the same time, the credibility of statistics is being questioned, in particular for inflation and real income measures, and the search for improved relevance pushes into going beyond present concepts of national accounts. [fre] Tirée par une demande croissante, bénéficiant d’un rôle majeur dans le débat public, soutenue par les progrès technologiques, l’information statistique connaît de grands changements. Le progrès de la gouvernance permet de mieux assurer l’indépendance de la production et de la diffusion des statistiques par rapport au pouvoir politique et aux groupes de pression. La normalisation internationale s’étend particulièrement en Europe. L’arbitrage ancien entre enquêtes et fichiers administratifs se déplace au bénéfice des seconds. L’Internet bouleverse les conditions de la diffusion et renouvelle la problématique de la facturation. Parallèlement, des doutes s’expriment sur la crédibilité des statistiques, notamment en matière d’inflation et de pouvoir d’achat, et les interrogations sur la pertinence poussent à aller au-delà des concepts actuels de la comptabilité nationale.
