Abstract

[fre] Le secteur bancaire a ses sujets dits sensibles. . Classification JEL : G20, G21 [eng] Interest and charges : striking the right balance . The French banking sector has its « sensitive » subjects, of which its « neither, nor » (neither any interest on savings accounts, nor any charges on cheques) policy is one. After two failed attempts at reform in 1967 and 1986, the advent of the euro should mean an end to this sacrosanct French taboo. The Ullmo report on interest on savings accounts and bank charges on payment services examines these questions and proposes various avenues as regards possible invoicing methods and the protection of the most vulnerable banking clientele. . Classification JEL : G20, G21
