Abstract

[eng] Big cross-border banking reorganization in Europe : attentive scepticism or dynamic expectation ? . Last year, two things strengthened the thought of economic actors, markets and press about the new likely features of banking reorganization in Europe : . - the acceleration of American banking consolidation . - the good results of European banks. This article tries to make this thought more obvious. So it presents the situation of the European banking industry, the barriers against consolidation and, to conclude, its driving forces. . JEL classification : F36, G21, G34 [fre] Deux éléments, au cours de cette année, ont renforcé la réflexion des acteurs, des marchés et de la presse, sur la dimension nouvelle que pourrait prendre la restructuration bancaire en Europe : . - l’accélération de la consolidation bancaire américaine, . - l’excellence des résultats des banques européennes. Pour clarifier la réflexion en la matière, cet article : . - considère l’état des lieux de l’industrie bancaire en Europe, . - les raisons ou barrières s’opposant à la consolidation, . - les motifs y poussant, afin de tenter de conclure. .
