Abstract

. Classification JEL : G21 [eng] Sixteen years of French banking reorganisation . Between 1984 and 2000 banking sector has more changed than during the forty previous years. It’s now more simple and more concentrated. This article describes the main transformations in the French banking system during the past sixteen years : the French State disinvestment, the adjustment caused by technical and financial innovations and the restructuring enforced by economic evolutions. While the European banking markets’ integration strengthens, we must moreover draw up a statement of these transformations. Some over-capacities stay in banking sector. It’s still weakly condensed and internationalised. . JEL classifications : G21
