Abstract

[eng] Financial deregulation in Asia : which lessons for Africa ? . Financial deregulation is quite often a key factor of economic development. These last twenty years have been characterised by financial deregulation. moves in a number of emerging. countries. . However, the results of financial deregulation can be quite different depending on the particular continent considered. Asia, seems to have been much more succesful than Africa in this respect, given its stabler macro-economic situation and a sounder banking system.. Therefore, Africa can learn from the Asian experience, on condition that reforms take place in a favourable macro-economic context, with sound financial institutions and within a well-devised institutional framework.
