Abstract

[eng] The absurd polemic with, over the last couple of months, has occurred around Clovis commemoration offers the opportunity of proposing a more objective reading of economic, financial and legal data belonging to the history of the Regnum Francorum, between the fall of the Roman Empire and the come back of the Carolingian Empire. Over approximately four centuries, during which elements provided to History were both rare and rudimentary, not only the outline of what was to become France, but also the probably partial préfiguration of Europe have taken from. A mixture of traditions and cultures, passion and resistance have transformed a broad territory along the years. The Latin-Anglo-Gallo-German marriage has been forced by wars before being established by the Church during those couple of obscure and mythical centuries. The economy has suffered, the currency has shrunk but, in spite of appearances, the situation has not only been as dramatic as it has been most frequently said, but has also contributed to lay the foundations of a new political, economic, financial and legal order ; if only our modern concept of order could answer to disruptions and disorders which have characterized these periods.
