Abstract

[eng] Saving behaviours in the five major countries in 1995. 1995 has been highlighted by increasing global financing needs in G5 countries. This trend can mainly be explained by the decrease of the Japanese current surplus. Different components of national savings have in fact followed disparate evolution according to countries, mainly according to different economic cycle phases. This is the case of public savings, showing a public balance improvement concerning Anglo-Saxon countries, and to a lesser degree concerning France. However, household savings rate has increased almost everywhere, particularly in Europe, thanks to the growth of financial savings. Finally, corporate net lending positions remain globally in excess due to the low level of investment (except for the United States) and to the increase of the capital earnings share in the added value.
