Abstract

[eng] Interbanking economic analysis . Interbanking benefits are slightly debatable, mainly in the field of means of payment. However, cooperation between banks is difficult to organise. The example of plastic money perfectly illustrates the potential conflicts which may occur among different players in the system. We shall first deal with withdrawal of funds, and show (after Matutes and Padilla) two contradictory effects related to the compatibility decision : the network effect and the competitive effect. We shall then study the payment activity, and show the disadvantages of its current pricing practice.
