Abstract

[eng] Banking and Insurance. The crisis has brought with it modifications in the economic sociological environments, in behavior and technology, which have led to a rapprochement between banks and insurance companies. Quantitatively, demand has evolved in favor of insurance companies; qualitatively, it has moved away from financial products to financial services and in the process has blurred traditional distinctions. In the face of this evolution the two sectors are condemned to expend great effort in modernization and adaptation. In order to achieve this each possesses certain comparative advantages. An analysis of respective advantages shows that a rapprochement between banks and insurance companies is probable. Other factors, most notably those that are international in nature, lead one to believe that regulatory obstacles which are presently inhibiting a coming together will eventually fade away. Furthermore, in the new deal of the cards between bankers and insurers certain other parties (business, distributors, the state) have joined the game. Thus, the advent of a single sector of financial services within the next decade appears as a plausible future scenario.
