Abstract

[eng] Nowadays, the traditional notion of physical investment does not square any more with the global outlay of the firms which devote a growing part of their expenses to non-material investments : R and D, training, marketing, software... So, between 1974 and 1984, R and D, according to the estimates of the article, would have passed from 8 % to 12,3 % of the gross fixed capital formation, training from 2,5 % to 3,8 %, meanwhile advertising would have grown from 5,8 % to 7,8 % and software from 3,1 % to 10 %. On the whole, non-material investment would amount to almost 40 % of physical investment both of which would be increasingly mixed in the future, so that joint systems should prevail.
