Abstract

[eng] This paper is a survey of new energy technologies and it examines whether they can reverse the trend of rising energy prices.. A basic distinction has been made between energy producing technologies and energy utilizing technologies. The former tend to increase the volume of world available resources while the latter might in the medium term bring about substantial improvements in productivity through a more rational use of energy flows.. Competition between the two leading energy sources — oil and coal — is going to strenghten in the 80's and one might think that the cost of synthetic gazoline made from coal could well provide an upper limit to the raise of energy prices.
