Abstract

[eng] M. Rainelli - Concerning the dividing up of industry.. Various approaches are possible for splitting up the industry and defining the relevant sub-groups : sectors, types of firms, groups. It is here proposed to regroup the industrial sectors on the basis of their homogeneity as regards the economic and financial conditions. Criticizing the approaches based on the destination of production, the paper shows that the sub-groups can be analyzed in terms of the intra-sectoral competitive process. Defined that way, the sub-groups appear to be stable through time, which makes it possible to use them for industrial policy purposes, but also to take account of them for the purpose of "meso-analysis".
