Abstract

[eng] Abstract . This paper focuses on international technology transfer in watchmaking industry between Japan and the West during the years 1880-1940. It shows which role both Swiss and American watchmaking industries played in this process and how Japanese watchmakers, especially the company Seiko, did develop themselves using Western technologies. It also goes through the reaction of Swiss watchmaking business circles facing this new industrial and commercial rival, how they acted in order to put an end to this technology transfer to Japan and how come their policy failed.
