Abstract

[eng] Abstract . The success of the Nazi Party in Germany is often interpreted as an "uprising of the province" (D. Peukert) - above all of the Protestant rural population. Conversely one of the key elements of the victory of the Front populaire in France in May 1936 could be linked to the traditional vote for the Left in most of French rural population. Both countries were weakened by a severe economical crisis but their opposite political evolution has to be analyzed in a systematic comparison of mentalities and political structures in order to explain why Germany tended to the radical right and France to the (radical) Left.
