Abstract

[eng] Abstract What impact did the abolition of the corporations implemented by the d'Allarde law in 1791 have ? A tentative quantified approach is put forward here based on a comparative historical survey covering the cities of Toulouse and Saragossa. This constitutes an attempt to explain the chronological dissymmetry between France and Spain with respect to the disappearance of corporate bodies and involves considering how family control over professional milieus and the numerical relationship between independent workers and employees changed. At these two levels, the economic and social models generally associated with the Ancien Régime and industrial society are not always relevant to account for the situations observed prior to and after the Revolution and the disparities noted on either side of the Pyrenees.
