Abstract

[eng] Abstract The main questions raised by the experimental genre of the opera-comique of the Revolutionary period, are exposed through ten chosen scenes of operas created between 1 789 and 1 798. Five themes were selected: the popular character, tragedy, foreign dramatic influences, heritage and experimentation, laughter and its implications. For each one of them, it is deemed necessary, through examination of a relevant scene, to evaluate what the period delivered and to propose an appropriate method of questioning for each of these questions. Examples are taken from Les deux petits savoyards (Dalayrac, 1789); Eliza (Cherubini, 1794); Euphrosine (Mehul, 1790); Romeo et Juliette (Steibelt, 1793); Zelia (Deshayes,1791); Lodoiska (Cherubini, 1791); Paul et Virginie (Kreutzer, 1791); Les Visitandines (Devienne, 1792); Le Prisionnier (Delia Maria, 1798); Leonore (Gaveaux, 1798).
