Abstract

[eng] Abstract The Compagnie générale de télégraphie sans fil (CSF), was created in 1918 to exploit France's overseas telegraphic ventures and, in 50 years, became an industrial conglomerate, specialising in electronics. From the very beginning, and throughout its history, until its merger with Thompson in 1968, the company has been supported by the Banque de Paris et des Pays- Bas (BPPB), as much a strategic advisor as a financial one. This, at times, lively partnership, is characteristic of the role played by the large merchant banks in this sector of industry during the 20th century.
