Abstract

[eng] Abstract Brought up in the respect for Catholicism, Louis XIV was pious and devout king. Setting himself as the protector of the French Church, the sovereign made his devotions every day, wherever he was, following regularly the liturgical calendar. The royal religion, related and spread through the press, took place in the Chapelle royale. Its ostentation distinguished the daily masses, and moreover the important annual celebrations, like those of the Holy Week, or special ceremonies.
