Abstract

[eng] Abstract The festivities that have celebrated the sovereign magistrates' returns from exile during the eighteenth century have been disdained by historians. Those have seen in these collective events the effects of the judicial world political strategies or a consequence of the exarcerbated sensibility of the time. Howewer, these festivities are deeply original. In spite of their ceremonial and conventional features, they have favoured the awareness of urban, provincial and national solidarities, around the «Pères de la Patrie». This article shows how they have realized the temporary union of people and elites, notwithstanding the numerous tensions and conflicts.
