Abstract

[eng] Abstract Contrasting with many hagiographers of the XVIIth century, Martin de Barcos (1600-1678) argued for a return to the ancient way of praising the saints. According to the Scriptures, virtues, as brilliant they are, shall not conceal sins committed. However, the reality of jansenist hagiography, which has been expanding in the 1730' s, is disappointing. Perfect hews are presented in this militant literature, who seem very close to the champion of Catholicism set out by their opponents.
