Abstract

[eng] Abstract In 1947, both the population and the economy of Russia were subjected to one of those « shock therapies » to which Soviet power structures hold the secret. As is better understood now, thanks to the State Archives of the Russian Federation, the 1947 reform was accompanied, because of leaks, by massive withdrawals of bank deposits and a dramatic rise in the price of food. Even if the exchange rate was theoretically less unfavourable to small account holders than to large ones, the lower classes were the most affected by the reform because of inflation, as well as the transfer of funds from households to industry.
