Abstract

[eng] Abstract This thesis studies the court of France as a point of contact between the royalty and nobility from Henri II to Henri IV (c. 1547 -c. 1598). It demonstrates that the royal entourage (mostly the minions of Henri III) played a major political rôle during the Wars of Religion, not only as instruments for the control of the court, but also as brokers for the courtiers, and as agents of the royal attempt to promote peace in the provinces of the kingdom.
