Abstract

[eng] Abstract British government was highly interested in the beginnings of the French Revolution and the collapse of the Ancien Regime. Until august 1792, British ministers received intelligence about France mainly from their ambassador in this country. When he had to withdraw from Paris, because of Louis XVI' s dismissal, British government tried to send or to recruit secret agents in France. These spies managed to set up correspondences from Paris to London. However, the outbreak of the anglo-french war and the beginning of Terror stopped these attempts.
