Abstract

[eng] Abstract The French of Troyes changed the course of its largely dominant textile industry on more than one occasion. The competition put up by the Dutch industry was eliminated during the wars under the reign of Louis XIX, and the French industry at Troyes invested in laundering, the quality of which, according to town councillors, was due to the purity of the water. Although there was little relevance in this argument, it was used from the middle of the 18th Century until the beginning of the 19th Century, against the floating wood merchants. The floating of logs down the river was believed to harm the canals due to the tannin left behind. However, way before this time, bleaching was wood supplies, which was threatened by the extending perimeter that supplied Paris. The War of Troyes was therefore a War of Fire, a war between a metropolis and its capital. Eventually Troyes was to lose the battle, through not being able to out in place the infrastructures necessary fot the stocking of heavy goods.
