Abstract

[eng] Abstract At the end of the 17th Century, when the principal form of activity in France was the crafts industry, two important operations took place. They apparead to be completely out of context for th era. For a specific reason, the préfabrication of three frigates and a galley was attempted in the four Royal Naval Dockyards, something that never been done before. This lead, in the same way, to the mass-building of fifteen galleys at the dockyard of Rochefort, between 1689 and 1690. In both cases, the operations were the first of their kind. This study aims to determine how the protagonists of such exceptional naval works organised themselves, aswell as the nature of their weaknesses.
