Abstract

[eng] Abstract During the last decades of the 20th century (up to 1995), the computerization (retrospective conversion) of the catalogue of the BN or BNF is being achieved. Already several partial CDRoms of it do exist, the most complete of them has more than two millions records (out of the 6,5 millions records that the complete retrospective conversion of the BN catalogue will involve). Various resarches on history of books and on yearly preserved production of books (PAC, or Production Annuelle Conservée) are becomming possible. In the following article, we give and comment a graph of the PAC during 5 centuries from 1452 to 1969. This PAC exhibits a tremendous annual growth during the « long 16th century » (from 1452 to 1621) ; and also from 1751 onwards to the beginning of the 20th century (this beginning being called as everyone knows the Belle époque) and even to a certain extent after World War one. The intermediate period from 1621 to 1751 and especially from 1621 to 1721 is caracterised by a much quieter pace of annual growth of the PAC. The « accidents » on the 5 centuries curve, accidents recorded in the short term are also very interesting ; and we can observe many middle range fluctuations as well.
