Abstract

[eng] Abstract During the XrVth and XVth centuries, artisans occupied a large place in the rural society of the province of Dauphine. Fiscal documents, as «rôles de taille» and «Révisions de feux», show them in the greatest part of the villages, including the most isolated of Oisans and Queyras mountains. In that period, small villages had 2 or 3 different trades, and bigger ones — where craftsmen constitued 10 to 30% of family heads — up to 10. Working for local customers and moving sometimes to distant countries, they obtained incomes who, connected with ressources of their fields, placed them generally in the center and sometimes at the top of the social scale.
