Abstract

[eng] Abstract We viewed in this article how and to what extent - in the field of naval material so essential to squadrons intervening far from metropolitan waters - British admiralty, more especially the Navy Board, managed over a century, to meet constant by increasing fleets requirements, which had been dispatched in the Caribbean area. The progress is exceptional, seeing that the Navy Biard passed from its incability of provinding some rare ships to a satisfactory supplying of powerful squadrons. Fruit of a long ripening and a constant effort, this logistics became active and largely contributed to the successes of vast conquest operations. Those conquests allowed England to seize the main French and Spanish possessions in the region, during the last years of the Seven Year War. This positive evolution results from 3 concomitant factors, successively analysed : - The development rotating movement between the home country and the west-Indian bases, - The nicreasing use of New England as outposts, - The development of the Navy Board local agencies.
