Abstract

[eng] Abstract Whether their tactics were acquisitive or defensive, conciliatory or threatening, IG's leaders were guided throughout the Occupation of France by a single, predominant strategic objective : to fortify their firm's competitive position in the postwar world. This parochial and long range perspective divided them from some Nazi officials, who gave priority to larger, more immédiat concerns. In the end, however, the pursuit of commercial self-interest did not prevent the cooptation of Farben by the Nazi regime. On the contrary ; it contributed to the downfall of both.
