Abstract

[eng] Abstract In the rural France in the old days wolves were a source of great danger as they used to attack both people and livestock. In the eighteenth century in Franche-Comté, as in other provinces, rewards for their destruction were offered by the intendant. Apart from the numerical content, albeit of obvious interest, of the relevant reports, the latter bring to light a number of original aspects of the social life, behaviour or administrative organisation of those times. They also bear witness to the constant care and attention given by the «commissaires départis» to the security and prosperity of the King's subjects.
