Abstract
[eng] Abstract An overall view allows Madeleine Laurain-Portemer to single out five different phases in the history of Mazarin's wealth, starting off from the practices «à la romaine» to end up with the huge riches of the last years. There is nothing linear in the Cardinal's attitude which passes from «disinterestedness» to mobilization of the country' resources in order to face dramatic circumstances. It is the context that one must never forget, if you wish to appreciate with objectivity the relationship of the Prime Minister with money, louis XIV, as for himself, took this into the utmost account when, in March 1661, he decided of the fate of Mazarin's inheritance.
